After 'Mercury' was released, we wanted to release the songs that were cut from that album to those who didn't get a chance to grab a 'Mercurious' tin. To add to that, we recorded our last concert as an official band on December 30th, 1995, and put some of the usable cuts on there. "Wrounde" was something that we wanted to capture, since the live version was one of the few songs from 'Shawl' brought forward to the 'Mercury' sound. One of the other delightful things about the live tracks is the audible destruction of the guitar pedalboard failing. If nothing else, witness the last gasp of a dying band.
Trophies proves that all the time off Luxury has enjoyed since the last album has not hindered them one bit. I'm loving this melding of 80s and 90s influenced alt rock. They just keep getting better and better. grandeped
Female led dreampop band sort of.....this band looks both forward and backwards on the musical time line spectrum.
Melodies are very similar to post-punk movement in UK with bands like the Cure, Simple Minds, New Order, Echo...etc...etc.....
Yet at the same time has a lot of dreampop and shoegazer elements.
Its actually going to be one of my favorite buys of 2014.
Give it whirl for yourselves! Agent K
It's hard to put it concisely: this was an album I grew up with in "the scene" while playing in a band of my own. The musicians in this band are people I'd looked up to for years growing up (and as an adult musician as well).
Every time I hear this song it transports me. SWG
Musically and thematically, Lands & Peoples continues in the same direction as Dolorosa and Winnowing before it. Here, mid-tempo, shuffling confessions and introspections weave between folkier tales of the ghosts of America(s), past and present. The High Desert reprises her starring role as the whispering, mysterious spirit who just might reveal a longed-for America of the future, as well. Lands & Peoples longs for better things, even if they all turn to dust in the end. Craigory Bacon
